GNF - Guinean Franc currency
Guinea
The Guinean Franc (GNF) is the official currency of Guinea, issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Guinea. It was introduced in 1959, replacing the French West African CFA Franc following Guinea’s independence. The Guinean Franc is a free-floating currency, but it has suffered significant inflation and devaluation due to economic instability, political unrest, and reliance on commodity exports (especially bauxite and gold). The currency is not subdivided into smaller units, as centimes were removed from circulation due to inflation. Banknotes are issued in values from GNF 1,000 to GNF 20,000, while coins are rarely used.
