The São Tomé and Príncipe Dobra (STD) was the currency of São Tomé and Príncipe until it was replaced by the New Dobra (STN) in 2018. The redenomination aimed to simplify transactions and reduce inflation’s impact by replacing 1,000 old dobras with 1 new dobra. The currency, issued by the Central Bank of São Tomé and Príncipe, played a crucial role in the nation’s economy, which is largely dependent on cocoa exports and international aid. Due to its limited economic scale, São Tomé and Príncipe also maintains close financial cooperation with Portugal and international institutions. The adoption of the new dobra has helped to stabilize the currency, making trade and banking operations more efficient.
