The Sudanese Pound (SDG) is the official currency of Sudan and is issued by the Central Bank of Sudan. It was introduced in 2007, replacing the Sudanese Dinar following the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement. The currency was initially well-received, but due to economic instability, inflation, and political turmoil, the pound has experienced significant depreciation. The Sudanese economy has been heavily impacted by sanctions, political conflict, and the secession of South Sudan in 2011, which led to a substantial loss of oil revenue. The Sudanese Pound is subdivided into 100 piastres. Despite ongoing economic reforms, high inflation remains a major challenge for the stability of the SDG.
