The Tajikistani Somoni (TJS) is the official currency of Tajikistan, issued by the National Bank of Tajikistan. It was introduced in 2000, replacing the Tajikistani Ruble. The somoni is subdivided into 100 dirams, though due to inflation, diram coins are rarely used. Banknotes range from TJS 1 to TJS 500, while coins are issued in denominations from 5 dirams to TJS 5. Tajikistan’s economy relies heavily on remittances from migrant workers, particularly in Russia, making the somoni vulnerable to fluctuations in the Russian economy. The exchange rate is not fixed, and the currency’s value is influenced by foreign exchange policies and economic conditions.
